Obeying Your Father

“And as he passed by,
he saw Levi the song of Alphaeus
sitting at the receipt of custom,
and said unto him,
Follow me,
And he arose and followed him.”

~~~~~~Mark 2: 14~~~~~~
One of the first things that has been shown to me is the simple obedience of Jesus’ disciples when they were called. They did not stop to think about what they would be losing or leaving. Some of these disciples even left nicer trades. All of them left many things behind. They totally committed themselves to Jesus.
As I was thinking about their obedience, I began to think about how often the Lord has told me to go tell some one about Salvation, and I hesitate and try to think of excuses. It’s not that I don’t want that person to know about the Lord, quite the opposite in fact. The reason I put it off is because I don’t want to be the one to go.
This is a form of disobedience. When we put off doing the Lord’s will we are not fully, committing ourselves to Him. We are saying that we want to think about what we might have give up or go out our way to do.
We should not be concerned about our way or our comfort. Our ways are the not the Lord’s ways, therefore, we should deny our way and follow the Lord. Also, we should not be thinking about what comforts we might lose, since the Lord gave up the greatest and most wonderful comforts of heaven to come to earth and die a cruel death on the cross.
Oh, how selfish we can be. We would rather choose to follow our own desires and ways, rather than follow our Father. We should follow the example of the disciples and commit readily to our Lord. We should not hesitate when we are called to do something. Just imagine how many souls could be reached for the Lord if we answer our Father’s call every time He leads us to witness to some one.
Let’ s commit to readily answering when our Father calls as we proceed on our journey to knowing our Father better.
