Many of you have probably seen the movie "Fireproof".
I went to see it as soon as it came to theaters. I began crying moments into it and continued to cry and laugh throughout the rest of it.
I came away from watching this great movie having learned something.
I was made aware of some of my own weaknesses. The dynamics of the relationship between the man and wife showed me areas that I personally needed to work on.
In short, God used the movie as a way to challenge me to examine myself.
I just finished watching it again. This time, I realized something.
Fireproof is a great movie, but it's lacking. The message it gives is only the beginning.
Having a great, godly marriage is a wonderful thing and it will definitely take hard work and it will definitely leave both husband and wife fulfilled.
But, WHY?
Why should husbands and wives spend their lives working together to build godly marriages, godly homes, raise godly children, and so on?
BECAUSE:
Marriage is ministry.
It's hard, it's literally a war because it involves two sinners who are already striving with the help of God against who they tend to be without Him.
When a man and woman come together in marriage, they have covenanted with God to be dedicated to serving Him together.
As individuals, they exist to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.
Their marriage exists to display that each one exists to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.
Together, they strive to be a picture of Christ and His Bride, the Church.
