Have you ever considered what the fragrance of your spirit, your attitude, your heart is like to the Lord?
I recently picked up Purely Woman by the Wilsons and found myself quite intrigued by Lauren's chapter on Pure Fragrance.
*If you haven't picked up a copy of the book, I'd recommend it.*
My thoughts have been reflective of that chapter, considering what my fragrance is like to the Lord. In 2nd Corinthians 2:15-16, Paul writes,
"For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life. And who is equal to such a task?"Have you ever noticed that attitude of a person changes their spiritual fragrance?
I have.
Especially in myself.
I've considered long in recent days how God feels about my spiritual attitude or "fragrance," as Paul calls it. Surely the thoughts and actions that come from me are as unpleasant an odor as carrion.
This brings me back to where I first understood the grace of God.
He is so merciful and loving to consider such a sinner and wretch his child!
Does He not deserve that our fragrance be sweeter to Him than honey? Surely every word from our lips, every inner thought, every beat of the heart should drip with the delight of praise unto Him!
In Lauren Wilson Black's chapter of Purely Woman, she refers to this sweet prayer from the Puritans:
"Brighten my soul with the pure light of truth; make it fragrant as the garden of paradise, rich with every goodly fruit, beautiful with heavenly grace, radiant with rays of divine light."
He only is worthy of such devotion and love.
"Finally, brothers, good-by. Aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you."--2nd Corinthians 13:11
